THE NEXT 5 FOR NETWORKING UNITED STRONG: DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION SUMMIT Join us Thursday, April 5 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. for the inaugural United Strong: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit at the Del Mar College Center for Economic Development, Room 106. The United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce recognizes that strength comes from diversity and unification. Diverse perspectives, inclusion and equity are important and necessary for responsible and representative decision-making, talent devel- opment and fostering a pro-business climate for the well-being and vibrant future of Corpus Christi and the South Texas Region. Summit attendees can expect to be engaged in a necessary, beginning conversation on diversity, equity and inclusion through- out a series of sessions with speakers, panels, activities and networking breaks. Topics of discussion will include: cross cultural issues; generational differences in the workplace; working with differently-abled populations; equity and gender inequality; cultur- al intelligence and why it matters; population shift; and an inclusive future welcoming new Americans and international talent. A brief- ing of the demographic and economic contributions of immigrants in Corpus Christi in 2016 will be provided and successful business owners who are immigrants will be highlighted. The summit is in partnership with Del Mar College Center for Economic Development. Spon- sors include Southwest Airlines, Del Mar Business Development Center, BBVA Compass Bank, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and Dr. Mary Jane Garza. In 2016, National League of Cit- ies (NLC) named Corpus Christi as one of 25 cities for its work in equity in postsecondary and workforce. In October 2017, the City of Corpus Christi adopted an Education Strategic Plan to prepare the future workforce. In September 2017, Corpus Christi was named as one of 25 communities selected for a Gateways for Growth (G4G) Challenge Round II Grant in partnership with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to welcome New Americans on behalf of Corpus Christi to de- velop concrete strategies to integrate immigrants and international talent to foster economic growth. The United Strong: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit is the culmination of the two projects (NLC & G4G) and the spring- board to action as the work begins for the future of growth in Corpus Christi.
