Let ’ s talk about watching out for the future . Since 2010 , the region has seen about $ 35 Billion in new industrial investment . Everyone has benefited , either directly ( like employees or construction companies ) or indirectly ( people shopping in your stores ). There ’ s somewhere around 8-11,000 industrial construction workers already in our market ( exact numbers fluctuate ). They don ’ t march in like Genghis Khan ’ s hordes , they ’ re already here , they ’ re our neighbors . These are folks who are already here , buying or renting homes , buying cars , shopping in stores . These are good jobs , no , scratch that , great jobs . Skilled workers make six figure salaries , especially with overtime . They are building industrial projects , working industry turnarounds , servicing plants .
We asked TAMU-CC to study the major projects , how they hired workers , ramped up employment , then ramped down as the construction projects were finished . At the minute , the giant Cheniere plant is close to peak construction works on site . In a couple of years , the new Harbor Bridge will reach peak employment .
