Among those are Subway in Timpson,
Terry Bailey’s “High Roller” Rodeo Arena
in Center, the New Life Church in Center,
Ken Muckelroy and Brady Scarber’s Rodeo
Arena and much more are all buildings from
Cornerstone Construction.
The successful construction company
also did the re-building of the James
Grocery on Texas Highway 7.
Jeff says Cornerstone is very unique in
the way he handles his business — being
one of the only licensed construction
businesses in the county. The firm also
offers complete packages of construction
and management services for almost any
size and type of building program.
Cornerstone Construction has been built
on trust, he says.
“I don’t charge the customer until
whatever we have done is completed,”
Jeff says. “I never ask for money up front,
there’s very few people who can do that. I
just feel that brings more trust between me
and my customer.”
Jeff is also well-known in the Joaquin
community by his family’s hardware store
legacy, Dean’s Hardware. The family
celebrated their 100th year of business
anniversary in October 2019 for the
hardware store.
His parents, Gearline and Rodney Dean,
run and operate the store today after it was
founded and established in October of 1919
by Jeff’s great grandparents, Louie B and
Sue Dean.
Residents could say the Deans are a bit
of a Joaquin community tradition, being
the owners of two of the most successful
businesses in the town.
Jeff says the family’s focus is on customer
service and quality.
“I always try to do everybody the best
job I can...it will be the best job that you’re
going to get,” he says. “It may not be the
cheapest, but we are licensed and insured
— one of the only construction companies
in the county that is.”
Building a reputation over a period of
years keeps customers coming back and
sharing their level of satisfaction.
“Anybody can work - you can hire
anybody to put a roof on your house, build
your home, but if they’re not insured, your
roof or house isn’t insured,” Jeff says. “If
we’re working on a house and the whole
thing gets blown away by a tornado, it’s not
a huge deal because we are covered, we’re
insured, our insurance pays to replace it.”
Jeff says that quality of workmanship by
licensed, insured crews, backed by a well
established Shelby County firm, has been
the backbone of his business and he expects
that to continue well into the future.
