Sophia wanted to participate in this Special
Edition to thank her four amazing daughters for
the support she has received from them since
becoming ill and to especially thank her teenager
Chyna for potentially saving her life.
Sophia suffers from a rare neurological condition
and after living for over a year with non-stop,
debilitating and excruciating pain in one side of
her head, was eventually recommended for a
trial of 31 Botox injections to her head. It was
hoped this radical treatment would paralyse the
nerve receptors and bring some pain relief.
Apprehensive, but desperate for even one night’s
sleep, she agreed, but didn't tell any of her
daughters as she didn't want to worry them.
Two days before she was scheduled for the
operation, her daughter Chyna, woke in a cold
sweat, panicked and crying uncontrollably. Chyna
looked at her mother and said: “You died Mum,
you don't understand they lied!”
Later that day Sophia told Chyna that she was
due to go to hospital in a couple days but had
now decided not to go ahead with the procedure.
At last Chyna relaxed and said: “Ah, that's what it
meant!”

Saved My Life
Chyna
Who are you?
My name is Chyna, I am 15, in my final year of
school and live and go to school in London. I
have two older sisters and one younger sister,
a large extended family with dozens of cousins
which is great. I know a lot of people but have a
few friends that I am close with.
I have been dancing my whole life, I love doing it,
I do it all the time both dance and choreography
and taught dance sessions over the summer with
my dance school. I'm so excited that next year I'll
be studying dance full-time, no distractions and
frustrations with subjects that I don't care about,
on a UAL course which is equivalent to three A
Levels.
I've already been given an unconditional offer,
met my dance teacher and we really connected.
I love the fact that she is a dancer and academic
with a Masters in Choreography. It annoys me
when people try to look down at dance as an
option! I also play drums for fun.
Tell us about the relationship
with your mum?
We are pretty close, except when she takes my
phone! I would say that she really trusts me and is
very supportive of me and my dreams and goals
in life and I’m very grateful for that. Her support
in my passion for dance helps us stay close.
Can you describe the dream you
had about your mum?
Follow your heart
and your gut
In the dream she went for a procedure and it
went wrong. The doctors told us that she died.
But I could still ‘feel’ her and I knew she was still
alive. I was telling my dad they lied. Me, dad and
my nan somehow got back into the room and
found her alive wired up to numerous machines,
we were pulling wires off and my nan was hitting
the doctors with a coconut.
What are your feelings about
what happened?
It was scary and although I knew it probably
wouldn’t have been that extreme if she had the
