Environment
In 2004, the Marine Turtle Specialist Group
(MTSG) and the International Union for
Conservation of Nature (IUCN), conducted
an evaluation finding that green turtles were
endangered worldwide. In 2015, the World
Wildlife Fund and National Geographic
Magazine named Kemp turtles as the world's
most endangered sea turtle, with only 1000
females nesting annually.
Fishes
In 2014, IUCN moved the Pacific bluefin tuna
to "vulnerable" on a scale which represents
the level of risk of extinction. A population
assessment published in 2013 by the
International Scientific Committee for Tuna
and Related Species in the North Pacific Ocean
(ISC) shows that the population of Pacific
bluefin tuna declined by 96 percent in the
Pacific Ocean.
Between 2011 and 2014, the European eel,
Japanese eel and American eel were included
in the red list of endangered species in IUCN.
In 2015, the Environmental Agency concluded
that the number of European eels has declined
by 95 percent since 1990.
Sea plants
Johnson Seaweed, a food source for green
turtles, is in danger of extinction and is the
rarest species in its genus. It reproduces
asexually, which limits their ability to populate
and colonise habitats. Data on this species is
limited, but it is known that there has been a
decrease by 50 percent since the 1970s.
We stare at our seas and are aware of how
essential they are to our lives. By taking care
of them, we are taking care of ourselves. It is
our task to deal with the conservation and
protection of the oceans, so they are healthy
and life continues to exist in them. International
measures have already been adopted by over
80 countries, and many organisations are
focusing on promoting conservation actions,
however it needs the support of all of us to
achieve a solution.
WAW
Woman Appreciating Women - Event 2019
WAW - Women Appreciating Women is a global,
ground breaking movement by women for women
to appreciate and support each other in business,
projects and general well-being.
Business Fit Magazine Founder, Veronica
Sosa and two members of the Editorial Board,
Vikki Thomas and Viola Edward, celebrated
International Women’s Day on Friday 8th of
March, at the WAW event in London. The
theme of the night was “We Are Unbeatable as
a Team”.
These awards have been founded by the
visionary philanthropist, Dr Pauline Long, who
sponsored the event for the third year running.
It shines a spotlight on women who have never
received an award, yet they give so much to
society, and aspire, like the rest of us, to make
the world a better place.
