Who does Harmony? not want inner We know and feel that it is the most challenging aspect of our Modern Times. Multi-tasking is a special issue for women; recent research studies found out how stressful it is for our brain and nervous system. Therefore, we are happy to rediscover old methods like yoga techniques or new ones like mindful stress reduction become more and more important. We want to rebalance our self. Why is it so necessary? First of all, rebalance the relationship between body and mind. Hours and hours working with modern medias overloads our mental and nervous system. We become like a glass full of liquid, one more drop and it will overflow. In addition, we are in a sitting position when we work. What we need is twofold: to integrate physical movement in our daily life and to calm the excitation. Yoga satisfies both. Nevertheless, there is a “but”: when we are really stressed, it takes time to cool down our inner fire. Patience, deep breathing and a certain inner discipline are required – finally, the old virtues! Breathing deeply of fresh air in (and out, of course) if possible surrounded by nature, is like a key to inner balance. You can experiment and find out what is the best for you. Start by breathing in for five seconds and then out for five seconds. Then try for eight seconds in and out. Next try five seconds in and ten seconds out. You can hold your breath in between: five seconds in, hold your breath for five seconds, exhale for 15 seconds. To breathe out longer than to breathe in relaxes you. You can combine it with movement of the arms, legs, and by gently stretching the the whole body. The good news is: you can do it wherever you are. Be happy; don’t worry….or, in the words of a German philosopher (Friedrich Schiller): in our heart, we want to play, to be creative, colourful, enjoying the beauty of nature. In one word: to be light. The third centre, the third eye, brings us into contact with spirituality, with nature, the intelligence of the universe. It is interesting to know that the word “spirituality” comes from the Latin word “spiritus”. It means breathing! Indeed, by breathing in we provide oxygen to our body, by breathing out we exhale the consumed air. The trees and plants produce the oxygen we need, and thanks to their osmotic system they transform our consumed air into oxygen – a genius cooperation which deserves our admiration. The ancient methods teach us, that we have three energy centres: the vital centre, our belly with all the organs, (hara or upper dantien), 59
