motoring issues such as changes to speeding
fines, diesels and other car related matters.
As the face of a road safety campaign with
Pertemps Driver Training, an ambassador for
Morris Lubricants and MotorEasy, it is safe to
say that automotive runs through my veins
as a complement to my blood! If you like new
cars, I’m on the What Car? YouTube channel
reviewing 40 new ones every year!
What is the biggest mistake
you have ever made in
business and what you did you
learn from it?
My biggest mistake in business was not letting
go soon enough but that taught me to be brave
enough if I am ever in that position again in the
future. It is also amazing that when you do let
go, the tremendous space it creates and the
success and achievements to follow, as well
as quality of life, seem so much greater than
what you have left behind. At the time it’s hard
to see how this will be possible, but it nearly
always is the case.
What type of shoe you are?
I am a salsa shoe. It enjoys looking glamorous
and has an eye for a modest amount of sparkle
and bling yet serves a very practical purpose
and offers the right amount of support for
the ankle, which inevitably holds almost the
entire weight of the body. Underestimate this

beautiful little shoe at your peril. You can run,
dance, walk and jump to your heart’s desire
as this flexible, supportive and practical shoe
shows no sign of tiring despite the demands
it faces. It can handle most situations and is
always ready for the challenge whether that
is a treacherously uneven dance floor or an
immaculate path interrupted with hazards
and distractions. Be warned though, this shoe
does need looking after at times with a softer
approach, and some TLC ensures it is always
on its top game.
What is your major discovery in
life? And how has it influenced
your life?
Self talk. What you say to yourself really
matters and how you say it. What you say to
yourself relates to personal and business.
It also influences your focus. For example, I
launched a very ambitious 4-year project in
2013 and throughout that endeavour, became
acutely aware of “coincidences” which are
actually ways your brain is trying to support its
beliefs. My self-talk and planning resulted in a
number of opportunities arising, which I was
unaware existed prior to starting the project.
These were more than coincidences because
at all times my brain was looking for ways to
fulfil my dream and ensure the success of the
project; because I believed I could make it.
Then it’s how you say it. Framing in the positive
correlates with results. Do you say, “I hope I
make my flight” or do you say, “I hope I don’t
miss my flight”? I frame in the former, which is
the positive, as much as I possibly can, and if
I frame in the negative in error, I immediately
reframe and say the sentence again.
The most important point to note here
though is that for success in all areas of life,
these self talk techniques must be combined
with working smart, having a clear direction,
appreciating others, giving, sharing, honesty,
self motivation, being driven, listening to your
inner self and emotions as well as responding
to them, seeking help, learning, growing,
rewarding and desire for success.
