A vegan diet is usually based around whole foods and contain less unhealthy fats, fewer calories and much more vitamins and minerals that will make you feel better, look better and become a healthier version of yourself. Many people will naturally lose weight when switching to a vegan diet. This can be the result of many different factors. You eat healthier, less caloric dense food, more fiber, less saturated fat and sugar. Be aware that you generally must consume bigger volumes of food if eat a healthier vegan diet as the food you choose often have less calories. Eat more, be healthier and at the same time also maintain or lose weight? Doesn’t sound too bad to me. One thing that you hear most vegans say that they have experienced after switching their diet is that they are feeling lighter and more energetic. I like to visually explain this to people by telling them to picture themselves holding a vibrant green apple in one hand, and a piece of meat in the other hand – what looks more energetic and alive? What will make you feel more energetic? If you eat more colorful and vibrant food that definitely affects how you feel. A vegan diet is often considered to be the healthiest one there is, and with good reason. It is shown through research to help reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and potentially also some types of cancer. It is however possible to have an unhealthy vegan diet to. My recommendation will be to base your diet around fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Avoid highly processed foods, products high in sugar, saturated fat and added chemicals. If you are an animal lover or just in general care about other living beings, the best way to live accordingly to that is definitive being vegan. You will avoid eating animals, buying items containing animal products or support animal cruelty. The best way to go about this will be to read ingredients lists, look for trademarks like “Vegan”, “Cruelty Free”, “Not tested on Animals” etc., educate yourself and to learn from other vegans.
