A household name based in South Korea , Samsung currently holds a market value of $ 254.3bn . Samsung Electronics itself was founded in 1969 as part of the Samsung group and provides semiconductor , telecom and digital convergence technology . It works across 60 countries and has over 200,000 workers . Its 2016 profits are listed as $ 19.3bn and it has $ 217.1bn worth of assets .
