US tech retail giant Amazon is expected to make a $ 13.7bn bid for retail brand Target in 2018 , the Australian branch of which is controlled by Wesfarmers . This stands to benefit Wesfarmers , as according to the Motley Fool : “ Target Australia is creating big headaches for owner Wesfarmers and has contributed to its share price underperformance .” Sale of the brand is expected to allow Wesfarmers to redirect focus to its thriving coal and gas sectors .
