Gynell has a pretty long history with Nine Entertainment . He resigned from Nine Network in May 2005 , but returned to the job just two years later in September of 2007 . November of 2013 saw him appointed CEO of the whole company . The son of Australian television pioneer Bruce Gyngell , his salary surpasses those of all chief executives of the big four banks — which is a surprise , as the financial industry generally dominates this list — as well as Wesfarmers ’ and Rio Tinto ’ s top people .
Gynell recently made news by turning down News Corp ’ s offer to buy Sky News for $ 25 million , claiming that the news affiliate was worth more than the price News Corp named in the deal .
