High Speed Train
Bangkok – Chiang Mai The high-speed rail system will be constructed
to connect Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The
715-kilometre Bangkok-Chiang Mai route is
scheduled to open in 2019. The high-speed
trains, operating at speeds of 250 km/h, take
3.5 hours and can accommodate 34,800
passengers a day. The train ticket will cost

A 184-kilometre inter-city motorway between
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai will link up to the
R3A (Asian) Highway, which connects northern
Thailand with the Greater Mekong Subregion
including Laos, Myanmar and China. The Highway
