Pacer: I was fortunate when I played darts to compete in the Bull Pen, so I know what an emotional roller coaster it can be. You girls held it together well. You appeared to be cool, calm and collected dur- ing those matches. Geri: I’m glad you said appeared to be. Really there is so much going through your mind, you just have to keep your emotions in check and try to play as good as you can. It’s a great feeling for you and your partners when it works. Marlene: I can remember think- ing to myself, am I really get- ting this chance to play in front of all of these people in a World Championship match. It was amazing, and like Geri said, you just kind of block everything out to do your best. Of course you have to make sure that you’re not looking at yourself on a big screen TV. Pacer: Geri something tells me the Double Play Saloon must be a dart bar, am I wrong? Geri: Oh no, you’re not wrong. We run both steel and electronic leagues and tournaments, and I love meeting new people and mak- ing new friends. In fact we run a handicap league on Thursday nights and I try to get as many newcomers as I can involved. It’s a heck of a game. A lot of times all you have to do is get people started and they end up like a lot of us, players for life. We award what we call the Blue Island Cup and it really is a great way to get new players involved. Pacer: Okay girls, I want you to answer this question as honestly as you can. Seven years ago when you hooked up together, did you believe that you would be getting your picture taken holding the World Championship trophies? Geri: There is no way I did, I was following my husband around to blind draws and I honestly think I got better, because I got tired of losing. I loved the people and the game, but I was getting sick and tired of losing. If you would have told me I was going to have all of this success, I would have thought you were crazy. Marlene: I feel the same way, it has been amazing. I played steel tip and Geri had to twist my arm a little to get me into electronics, but I have to admit I’m sure glad that she did. Geri: We were shocked that you wanted to interview us, we didn’t expect this to happen either. Marlene: This really was a shock. Thank you, we appreciate it. Pacer: Geri and Marlene team up whenever they can work out their schedules. They are looking for- ward to competing at BullShooter 34, and I’m sure they will do their best. Players like them compete for honor, prestige, trophies and money. They are all great things but the most valuable thing they take from the game of darts is the memories which will be with them for the rest of their lives. Pacer
