we basically played seven days a week. He changed me from a dart thrower to a dart player. He taught me outs, strategy, the mental parts of the game. Pacer: Without a doubt, the mental part of the game sepa- rates the average players from the great players. Kristy: You have to be both phyically and mentally ready to compete. Think about it, you can stay home, party, get drunk, and socialize, but if you want to be successful, you had better be focused. You have to be mentally prepared. Pacer: I know how strong the competition in Texas is. There are so many great Men and Women shooters that it makes for amazing darts. Kristy: Texas is tough. Our Regional is just amazing. There are so many entries that you had better get ready for some long days and nights. The Women’s Singles (over 100 entries) goes on to the wee hours of the morning, tough, tough darts. Pacer: You and an old friend of mine that I interviewed years ago, Debra Ivey, have been making life hard on the other girls down there in Texas. You won the Women’s 301 and Women’s Combo at the Texas State Tournament and for good measure you won the Women’s Singles. Then at the Texas BullShooter Regional, you again swept the Women’s events. You two are on a roll! Kristy: Tom, I cannot even put into words what Debra means to me, not only as a partner, but as a friend. She is an amazing partner! She is so easy going and encouraging, she makes it just plain easy for me. It’s not just the fact that she shoots these great darts, it is her attitude before, during and after the match. She is what I call a 360 degree partner. She makes the game a lot easier for me. But really Tom, I have been blessed with some awesome partners. I’ve played with Teresa Nevilles, Shea Cole and Kathy Pedroza. I’m talking great players and great people. I have been blessed. These aren’t dart partners, they are friends for life! Pacer: Kristy, it is obvious how much you care about the game and it’s players, but you made a statement to me that made so much sense that I just have to ask you to share it with our readers. Kristy: Well, if there is one thing I learned in my 21 years of playing the game, it is that too many players spend a lot of time trying to get a good part- ner and not enough time trying to be a good partner. I’ve never wanted to be any- thing more than a good partner and I’ve been blessed to have people who have helped me be a good partner. Being a good partner is a lot more than ton eighties and hat tricks. Pacer: Those are words of wisdom if I ever heard them. Kristy said something else to me that made a lot of sense. She said “Tom, a lot of peo- ple choose their sponsors by going with the highest bidders. I chose L Style and Monstah Clothing because they treat their players like they are part of their family. That means a lot to me.” I would say her sponsor’s also made a wise choice. I don’t think they could have made a better choice than Kristy Davis.
