OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE The Feast of Christ the King was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 as an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organizes his life as if God did not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and effective manner Christ's royalty over individuals, families, society, governments, and nations. Today's Mass establishes the titles for Christ's royalty over men: 1) Christ is God, the Creator of the universe and hence wields a supreme power over all things; "All things were created by Him"; 2) Christ is our Redeemer, He purchased us by His precious Blood, and made us His property and possession; 3) Christ is Head of the Church, "holding in all things the primacy"; 4) God bestowed upon Christ the nations of the world as His special possession and dominion. Today's Mass also describes the qualities of Christ's kingdom. This kingdom is: 1) supreme, extending not only to all people but also to their princes and kings; 2) universal, extending to all nations and to all places; 3) eternal, for "The Lord shall sit a King forever"; 4) spiritual, Christ's "kingdom is not of this world". (THIS WEEKEND) Our “Thanksgiving Food Drive”... to assist those members of our parish who are less fortunate, especially at this special season, will take place this weekend, November 19 and November 20. Please bring your donations of canned goods, non-perishable items or toiletries to any of the Masses this weekend. (Boxes will be placed in the vestibules of the church to place your donations.) Monetary gifts are greatly appreciated as the money is used to purchase protein items such as tuna fish, Spam, turkeys, etc. Last year we fed approximately 40 families and over 20 seniors resulting in a total number of people helped of approximately 300. Our baskets are geared to feed families and seniors for at least a week with breakfast, lunch and dinner items. If you have a teenager who needs service hours we could use them in collecting the food on Sunday after all Masses. In addition, any adults who would like to help we welcome you also. Thank you for your past and continued generosity. For further information. Please call Jackie Madden, 888-4245 or Thekla Madere, 455-3305. (THIS WEEKEND) ADOPT AN ANGEL PROGRAM begins this weekend. Please select an Angel and return it with a wrapped gift, with the gift tag attached, on the weekend of December 3rd and 4th. Gifts MUST be received no later than 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4th. Decorating the Church for Advent We will be decorating the church for Advent, this Friday, November 25th following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Any help provided will be gratefully received. WE GIVE THANKS We are constantly reminded of how good God is to all of us. Yet, so often, we take for granted the many blessings we enjoy. Thanksgiving Day reminds us that it is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give thanks. As part of our Thanksgiving Day Eucharist, you are encouraged to bring a food item which you have prepared for your Thanksgiving meal, such as wine, baked goods, preserves, casseroles, etc. This will be included in the procession at the P reparation of the Gifts and placed in front of the altar as a sign of blessing and bounty. After Eucharist, you are asked to take your food item home and share a portion of it with someone who is less fortunate than yourself, perhaps an elderly neighbor or someone who is poor. Page 2
