Message from Halberstadt
Jonathan Siegler
Jonathan was born in London, and moved to
Luton in the late 70's with his family when
his father moved to fill the Consultant's post
at the L & D.
Educated firstly at Moorlands School in Luton, then Beechwood Park in Markyate, and
finally at Bedford School, going up to read
Business Studies at Guildhall School of Business in London.
After University, worked originally in Marketing and Advertising, then moving into Property finance. He then had a stint running a family business involved in the design
and manufacture of luxury leather goods for the jewellery industry. After that,
followed another stint in property finance, leading up to a change in health and
stress levels necessitating a move to something a little more sedate and kind to
the system.
He was invited to join Mark West at the Community Foundation initially as a volunteer working alongside Mark, then formally as Mark's right hand three days a
week. Since May, has been Head of Development, having taken over the running
of the Foundation during Mark's early stages of illness in late January.
Always helped with local fundraising in the community, supporting Mother with
Luton appeal of Cancer Research, also with the very first fundraising events to
raise the initial finance for the Luton and South Beds Hospice (now Keech) as
Father was one of the original trustees of the charity. Fond memories of the very
first Hospice fete, held up at the farm.
Avid supporter of Luton Town and proud of his adopted county.
Will often be found in the South of France at his spiritual home, relaxing and unwinding.
Has been on the edges of Rotary through mother for some time now, and it is
long overdue that he became a Rotarian himself.
Very happy to join the club, has been made to feel extremely welcome and at
home.
Dear friend Peter Collins. From the Rotary Club of Halberstadt, I would like to
present compliments to all members of the Rotary Club of Luton. The new rotary year has just started and it’s my responsibility, as president of RC Halberstadt to strengthen our long lasting friendship. Please send to President Kevin
Lee best wishes for his year as President, and please send thanks to our friend
John Edelnand. I was really touched to receive his letter.
I would like to invite you all to come to Halberstadt again where it will be a
pleasure for us to welcome many of you and spouses. Please consider a date is
to visit us, perhaps in autumn this year or spring next year?
Mark Relf
Mark Relph joined Keech Hospice Care some fourteen years ago as part of a small fundraising team
and has grown into his current senior position as the
Chidren's Hospice was built to cover Bedfordshire,
Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. He has developed a
huge network of contacts and represented the Hospice at hundreds of functions. He is an accomplished orator and front man for special events and
will be huge asset to our Club. I worked closely
with him for eleven years to develop the Midsummer
Show and he was always available for support .
Have a good time!
Best wishes from RC Halberstadt

What is Sports Trader?
Sports Traider is a youth-focused charity offering youngsters the kit and support they need to discover and fulfil their sporting ambition and potential,
whatever their background, ability or disability.
Sports Traider have established the first chain of charity shops in the UK that
specialise in sports kit and equipment. The aim is to make clothing and sport
equipment affordable to all, and at the same time generate a sustainable
source of funding to help disadvantaged young people participate in sport.
We channel all the money we raise back into grass-roots sport within the community area from which it was donated. We encourage
kids to try new sports and help talented sporting youngsters excel. For example, by organising community
sport coaching sessions, access to sporting facilities,
helping with club fees or transportation, getting talented but disadvantaged athletes to training and
events.
We firmly believe that community sport is an essential
part of society and should be available for all, and never
an inaccessible luxury.
