CIRO Welcomes New Board Members
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jason Wade and David Burley to our Board following the member elections this summer.
Jason Wade recently began a new role as Director of Service Delivery at Northern. A highly respected leader with a strong track record in operations, Jason has been closely involved with CIRO since its inception in 2000.
He had served as Chair of the North East Area Council since 2009, and made a significant contribution to supporting members and advancing professional standards in the region. Jason has held a short-term post on our Board this year and now as an elected member his full-term appointment brings deep operational knowledge and long-standing institutional insight to the Board.
David Burley, CEO at Rail Operations Group, also joins the Board, bringing with him a wealth of experience in railway operations. A committed CIRO member, David has held senior leadership positions across the industry, building expertise in service delivery, organisational leadership and professional development. His perspectives will be invaluable in supporting the Institution’ s continued growth and influence.
We would also like to express our thanks to Andy Joy, who steps down from the Board this December. Andy has given dedicated service, helping to shape CIRO’ s direction and champion its mission to lead, inspire and accelerate the growth of rail professionals. His contribution has been greatly appreciated by colleagues and members alike.
These appointments come at a time of wider transition for CIRO’ s leadership. Mark Hopwood CBE, Managing Director of Great Western Railway, has been appointed Chair of the CIRO Board, succeeding Jim Meade, CEO of Iarnród Éireann. Under Jim’ s leadership, CIRO grew in confidence, visibility and influence. We express our heartfelt thanks to Jim for all of his support, insight and strategic acumen during his successful time as our Chair. Mark’ s extensive operational experience and collaborative approach will ensure the Institution continues to strengthen its role as the professional body for railway operations.
