Area Events
Goodbye & Thank You
Once of CIRO ’ s long standing Area Council Members , David Davidson , is to step down from the South West and Wales Area Council and we would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his dedication and invaluable contribution .
Dave has been both a long-standing member of the Area Council , and with IRO membership number 44 , is he is also one of the Institution ’ s founding members . Dave said “ It has been a highlight of my career that I was able to play a small part in the IRO / CIRO and to help the younger generation gain experience in what was considered a “ Dark Art ” by many non-operational railway staff .
“ However , after having been retired for seven years , it ’ s time to step back . The trick of course is knowing when to let go and let future generations carry the torch . I ’ ve had a great time being a part of the IRO / CIRO , I ’ ve learnt a lot , met some fantastic people … but it ’ s time to let someone else enjoy that experience ”.
Dave will continue to promote the benefits of CIRO membership to the younger generation considering furthering their career in railway operations “ because that ’ s where the “ Magic ” happens ”.
We are delighted that Dave has enjoyed being a part of IRO / CIRO , and we especially appreciate the support that Dave has given over the years in the Sout West and Wales Area Council . We would not be able to deliver the superb area events , which our members value so much , without the ongoing help and support of CIRO volunteers like Dave .
We wish Dave all the very best in his future ventures , and if anyone is interested in joining the South West & Wales Area Council , please contact the CIRO membership team at membership @ railwayoperators . co . uk
