Ops Handbook Launch
Learning & Development
The institution is proud to announce the 4th edition of our popular Operators Handbook will be launched in early 2025 .
Working alongside a wide range of industry professional and subject matter experts , the handbook has been written by the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators ( CIRO ). The aim of the handbook is to remain useful to all levels of railway operators who deliver safe and efficient passenger and freight rail systems across the world , whilst ensuring the content is relevant and current for todays industry .
From those starting out on their careers to experienced operators , railway operators need a variety of skills and a proper knowledge of their complex environment in order to deliver their best .
CIRO plays a key part in delivering the knowledge needed to support railway operators to be the best they can be , with a great learning and development offer delivered through the Professional Operators Development ( POD ) framework . This Operators ’ Handbook uses that framework as its structure so that the learning in each chapter can be furthered through the courses run by the Institution ; from the Introduction to Rail and Rail Pro courses , our academic programme , apprenticeships and also our recently created CIRO Connect short course programme .
Keep an eye on our social media channels and membership communications to be the first to know when the 4th edition is available for purchase .
CIRO to Launch Master ’ s Level Programme
In response to increasing interest and industry demand , the institution is hopeful of launching a master ’ s level programme in the first quarter of 2025 . This would target those working in managerial / senior leader roles across the industry , offering students the opportunity to gain postgraduate university accreditation in a rail specific qualification .
If you would like to keep updated with the development of this programme , including when the application process will open , simply email : learning @ railwayoperators . co . uk to be added to our register of interest .
