In 2005, Dr. Thanu Kulachol, our former President
and present President Emeritus, was the only delegate from
the universities in Thailand who was invited to attend the
Secretary-General’s Global Colloquium of University Presidents,
held at Princeton University, New York, USA. The Colloquium
was and still is an invitation-only meeting of some 25-30
university presidents from around the world. The topics of
discussions for the year 2005 were “Academic Freedom”
and “International Migration”. In 2006, Dr. Thanu Kulachol
was invited for the second consecutive year to attend the
2 nd meeting of the Secretary-General’s Global Colloquium of
University Presidents, under the themes of “The Social Benefits
of the Research University in the 21 st Century” and “Innovative
Sources of Funding Global Public Goods”. The event was
hosted by the UN Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan with
other 5 world-class university presidents in New York namely
Columbia University, New York University, Princeton University,
University of Pennsylvania and Yale University.
In addition, in 2007, former President Dr. Mathana
Santiwat was invited by the UN Secretary-General H.E.
Mr.Ban KiMoon to attend the Secretary-General’s Global
Colloquium of University Presidents, hosted by New York
University, New York, USA. The 2007 meeting addressed the
themes of the “Global Climate Change” and “Setting the Post-
Kyoto Agenda for Climate Policy”. In 2012, former President
Dr. Mathana Santiwat attended the Sixth Global Colloquium
of University Presidents hosted by Columbia University, New
York, USA. The 2012 meeting focused on the “Global Effects
of the Youth Population Surge: Addressing the Needs of the
Largest Generation of Young People the World Has Ever
Known”.
