Bertschi now 30k strong
Bertschi has added the 30,000th container unit to its fleet . The Switzerland-based operator says the milestone epitomises the continuing success story of containerisation as well as the company ’ s growth . The new unit is a 20ft ISO tank container for use in global deepsea transport . Strong growth in the containerisation of bulk liquids over the past five years is one of the reasons why Bertschi chose to add more such units to its fleet . That container fleet also includes dry bulk containers that are used for trans-European transport . In fact , it was with dry bulk units that Bertschi began its journey towards containerisation back in 1970 . They were followed a year later with the tank containers for transporting liquid products . Bertschi claims to have been the first Swiss company to make use of the tank container and thus a pioneer in this sector . The first journey for unit 30,000 was from China , where it was built by CIMC , to Europe , with other destinations not yet planned , although the logistics firm says it will probably cover more than a million kilometres over its working life . www . bertschi . com
