Savvy Telematic Systems has provided an update on its pilot project with Transwaggon ( TWA ) and ScandFibre Logistics ( SFL ). Since 2015 , the three companies have been collaborating in a pilot project to equip 50 freight wagons , and then , in a second step , another 3,000 units with state-of-the-art telematics . The objective was to find a suitable technology to use transport-relevant data to improve rail logistics transparency and demonstrate the economic relevance of digitisation strategies . Encouraged by the positive experience and the proof of quality presented by Savvy with the first 3,000 equipped wagons , a total of 6,000 wagons is being upgraded this year and the contract period extended for further five years . “ Savvy ’ s , coupled with its proven data availability and performance were the decisive criteria for choosing the Swiss telematics specialists once again ,” said Anders Nilsson , CEO of railcar rental firm Transwaggon . “ In view of the smooth , extremely fast implementation and positive experience under normal operating conditions , it became clear to us that we wanted to continue the collaboration . This is why we are equipping 6,000 of our wagons with the Savvy CargoTrac telematics device and digitising our entire fleet step by step .” Installation of the first 3,000 units began in February 2017 and was completed without any disturbance to normal operations . Another 3,000 freight wagons will be equipped with the CargoTrac-R by May 2018 . “ We are , so far , very satisfied with this GPSproject . All actors in the rail freight industry must embrace the opportunities that digitisation offers in order to attract more cargo to rail ,” commented Pär Sund , head of logistics development at
ScandFibre Logistics Decisive for this reliability is the Savvy team ’ s 20 years of experience in developing highly accurate and robust telematics devices , and intelligent software algorithms that make the telematics device so intelligent that it only sends messages in real-time when absolutely necessary . Ten-minute notification intervals without a corresponding event are therefore unnecessary . This power-saving software intelligence feature ensures an autonomous device lifecycle of up to 15 years . In addition , there are no special requirements for installing and configuring the sensor technology :
GPS / GNSS , sensors to record direction , flat spots , performance , and shocks as well as a range of data transmission functions . CargoTrac-R delivers all of the data needed to display transport processes transparently . Moreover , updates and configuration changes can be transmitted over the air and additional sensors to record temperature or full / empty status installed wirelessly . It offers four connection options for manufacturer-independent sensors . The Savvy Sense Gateway communicates wirelessly . Aida Kaeser , Savvy CEO , said : “ Thanks to the continuously rising degree of coverage , our
partners are also getting an increasingly accurate overview of their transport processes . It is on this basis that we are working together to develop customised digital services surrounding controlling , operations , and maintenance processes to add more value for our partners and their customers .”
• In August Savvy announced the unexpected and sudden death of co-founder and CEO Dipl Ing Paul Kaeser .
The business will continued with the support of the holding company together with Mrs Aida Kaeser and colleagues . www . savvy-telematics . com
