6 Tank Containers BULKDISTRIBUTOR New polyethylene liner for Isotanks I ntermodal Liners has announced the development of a new technical innovation for Isotanks. The company is offering a patent applied for, polyethylene liner for Isotanks. The design is not a Flexitank that is installed in an Isotank but actually coats the barrel of the Isotank with polyethylene. Applications that could work with this new concept include: • Materials that are difficult to clean, like synthetic latex • Products that stain stainless steel, such as inks • Products that pit stainless steel, like chlorinated solvents • Products that have prior content restrictions • Traffic bound for destinations with limited cleaning options. There may also be opportunities to use these liners to carry food grade products as backhauls in industrial tanks. Use of this liner on an outbound load could eliminate the need to clean for a backhaul; simply removing the liner at destination after discharge would provide a clean tank for the next shipment. The liner will require about 45 minutes to install and remove after discharge. September/October 2016 Eurotainer introduces 37,000 litre tanks in China E urotainer recently took delivery of new 37,000 litre capacity tank containers in China. These tanks are built for domestic Chinese service and are the largest capacity liquid, swap body type tank containers in the Eurotainer fleet. The initial order was for nine units, which have now been followed by several additional orders as demand for this new design is high in China. They are also the largest capacity liquid type ISO tank available in the Chinese domestic market. This new design utilises the latest developments in tank container engineering and construction to maximise capacity, reduce tare weight to deliver optimal shipment quantities, increase storage capacity and lower overall supply chain costs for clients. Germany’s No. 1 carrier, which has used mergers to bring down costs and counter the slump that has shaken shipping for the past eight years, doesn’t plan to buy the Asian company or any of its vessels, now stranded at sea and various ports across the globe. Hapag-Lloyd is busy completing its merger with United Arab Shipping Co., which it aims to do by the end of 2016. “We better make a success of that first,” the CEO said. Habben Jansen expects Hapag-Lloyd’s transport container volume to grow in line with the market, which will probably be 2 Gardner Denver Transport Solutions expands its Vacuum portfolio percent to 3 percent this year.
