Krohne has added six new 24 and 80 GHz transmitters to its Optiwave series of FMCW radar level transmitters . They are aimed at liquid and solid applications in a wide range of industries , and each device has a particular target area of application , for example , agitated and corrosive liquids , narrow tanks with internal obstructions , or powders and dusty atmospheres . All the devices feature 2-wire 4 … 20mA HART 7 communication and come with an extensive choice of process connections , starting from 0.75ins . They feature a large backlit LCD display with 4-button keypad , a quick setup assistant for easy commissioning , and come with free PACTware DTM with full functionality . While approvals for hazardous areas are already available , other approvals including SIL are ongoing . Optiwave 3500 is a 80 GHz FMCW radar aimed at hygienic applications in the food , beverage and pharmaceutical markets . Optiwave 5400 is a 24 GHz FMCW radar for liquids in basic process applications in chemical , oil & gas and power industries . It provides accurate readings in closed tanks , in open air applications such as rivers or dams , and this even in processes with fast changing levels .
Optiwave 7400 is a 24 GHz FMCW radar designed for liquids in harsh environments , such as tanks with agitators containing corrosives or in non-Ex applications up to + 700degC / + 1,292degF ( eg , molten salt in solar plants ). Optiwave 7500 is a 80 GHz FMCW radar covering the same industries as the 7400 up to + 150degC / + 302degF , 40 barg / 580 psig . With its small beam angle and negligible dead zone , it is aimed at liquid applications in small and narrow tanks with internal obstructions like agitators or heating coils , as well as tanks with long nozzles . This 80 GHz radar can even measure through tank roofs made of non-conductive material . It features a flush-mounted PEEK Lens antenna and measures the level of a product from the antenna down to the tank bottom over a distance of 100m / 328ft . Optiwave 6400 is a 24 GHz FMCW radar for solids from granulates to rocks in industries such as minerals and mining , chemical , agriculture , or power generation . It measures the level of solids such as stone , plastic granulates or coffee beans accurately and reliably . Optiwave 6500 is an 80 GHz FMCW radar for powders and dusty atmospheres , aiming at the same industries as the 6400 . www . krohne . com

Richter unveils PFA lined tank
Richter Chemie-Technik introduced a newly designed tank bottom valve system recently . The lined foot valve complete with the NKS-T lined butterfly valve and a new PFA lined 3ins BSP outlet flange were displayed at the transport logistic exhibition in Munich . The Tank bottom valve system is claimed to reduce total cost of ownership while increasing safety and efficiency for operators of tank containers . Richter ’ s ball-valve technology eliminates the possibility of damaging the internal coating with opening and closing of the valve which eventually leads to corrosion . Furthermore , the TE / F valve is equipped with up to seven times thicker PFA coating , a material which delivers better performance on typical chemical resistance compared to current ECTFE solutions . Richter says its ball and butterfly valves have proven to last up to more than a decade in the most extreme conditions . Real world examples of over 900,000 opening and closing cycles of the PFA / PTFE lined NK series butterfly valves are not uncommon . The typical ‘ emergency closing mechanism ’ ( steel wire ) offers no option for the operators to open the ‘ last line of defense ’ outside the danger zone . With the safety of the operator in mind , Richter has replaced this ‘ remote control ’ with a robust stainless steel bar system for closing and opening at a safe distance to ensure the operator will not be in harm ’ s way with either of these two procedures . The TE / F valve features Richter ’ s Labyrinth seal and Envipack technology , which adds to the total concept of a robust design combined with great performance . The NKS-T Butterfly valve which is based on the NKS series of butterfly valves was developed to fit with the TE / F tank bottom valve . To complete the offering a new PFA lined 3ins BSP flange with end cap was developed to assure total integrity of the system . “ The TE / F was developed out of a direct operator need across the tank container industry to reduce operating costs ,” said Keshwar Anroedh , director marketing & product management . The tank bottom valve and NKS-T butterfly valve are available in DN80 ( 3ins ) and are well-suited for lined tank containers transporting corrosive or high purity products . Richter Chemie-Technik is based in Kempen , Germany . www . richter-ct . com
