Suttons secures sodium cyanide contract
Suttons ’ North American team has won a significant contract with Cyanco , one of the world ’ s biggest manufacturers of sodium cyanide . Due to the toxic nature of sodium cyanide and strict regulations surrounding its storage and transportation , Cyanco was looking for a logistics partner with significant experience in hazardous materials . Suttons ’ technical department worked closely with Cyanco ’ s technical team to update an existing tank container solution which features a sparger system designed to dissolve solid sodium cyanide briquettes into a liquid sodium cyanide solution , used at multiple gold mining sites across the world . George Easterling , Cyanco ’ s supply chain director , said : “ We have a strong working relationship with Suttons and are highly impressed by their flexible and innovative approach . We are committed to safety of not just employees and customers , but the environment as well , and so maintain strict controls that manage risk and are pleased to have a responsible and solution-driven partner in Suttons to work with us to develop our processes and procedures .” Steve Lonsdale , business unit director , Suttons Americas , added : “ This is another important contract win for Suttons . The client was

New Romania terminal
P
& O Ferrymasters and Transmec Group have extended their 14-year collaboration with the official opening of a new private intermodal terminal in Oradea , Romania , managed by their jointly-owned company Intermodal Vest . The initiative provides a dedicated facility for the partnership ’ s rail-based intermodal links between western and eastern Europe . The companies launched a Belgium-Romania service two years ago – initially via the public Romanian railhead in Curtici – and added an Italy-Romania route in June after acquiring the Oradea operation . Using private rail operators to run dedicated company trains , there are currently three round-trips a week between Oradea and Zeebrugge in Belgium and two a week linking Oradea with Piacenza in Italy . Transit times of just 48-72 hours are boosted by short pre-advice notice requirements . Operations are supported by combined company resources including a network of 50 offices across Europe , 500 Huckepack trailers and some 2,500 specialised containers . Direct control of own-fleet equipment guarantees year-round availability . The Oradea terminal is operational 24 / 7 , with two shunting locomotives and two reachstackers enabling rapid turnaround of trains . Round-the-clock security cover includes 32 CCTV cameras . On-site services include import / export clearance , dangerous goods capability and cross-docking / transhipment into secure warehousing . Proximity to the Oradea ring road provides truck access to the Romanian hinterland . Forward shipment by road to and from the Balkans , Turkey , Ukraine , Moldova and Bulgaria can be arranged via the terminal , as well as short-sea connections from Constanta and Varna to Black Sea countries . The terminal has capacity to double current throughput and strategic expansion plans include making the facility available to other intermodal operators from early next year . P & O Ferrymasters intermodal director Wim Blomme commented : “ Our customers will now benefit from a dedicated and integrated intermodal product covering ferry , rail , road and terminal operations . The investments made to acquire and upgrade the terminal demonstrate our long-term vision and ambition to develop further into the east .” Managing director Bas Belder added : “ The P & O Group ’ s confidence in intermodal development is also underlined in Zeebrugge , where our trains operate from the recently extended P & O Ferries rail terminal .”

Transmec managing director Danilo Montecchi said : “ The Oradea initiative extends a proven partnership with P & O Ferrymasters and takes our service offering to new levels . Customers can now benefit from a dedicated hub that provides a price-competitive and eco-friendly gateway to important growth markets .” Transmec ’ s co-operation with the P & O Group dates from the early 1980s – as the ferry company ’ s representative in Italy – and for the past 14 years has included close association with P & O Ferrymasters , mainly on the Italy – UK trade corridor . In September 2014 the logistics partners expanded their intermodal portfolios by running their first company trains together under the Zeebrugge-Romania joint venture . Operational and commercial limitations at the Curtici railhead prompted the companies to source a private , dedicated alternative and the Intermodal Vest operation at Oradea was acquired in April 2016 . Since then , work to upgrade the terminal infrastructure has been taking place alongside the introduction of services .
