After only eight months of construction , Greiwing has now put its hazardous materials warehouse at Duisburg Logport into operation . The plant covers an area of 7,500 sqm of the total of 37,500 sqm of land and includes a 1,300 sqm a picking area and 3,000 pallet spaces in the mobile rack . In total , 3,000 tonnes of barium chloride can be stored there . The plant on Bliersheimer Strasse will create another 14 jobs at the Duisburg location and cost around € 5.5 million . “ The short construction time does not reflect the effort that we had to carry out for this project ,” says Jürgen Greiwing . The upstream emission control approval process was particularly complex . Among other things , this demanded the participation of the public and local authorities . To get through this stage Greiwing held a public hearing in spring 2016 in the Duisburg Rheinhausen-Halle . Extensive design was also in the construction planning , especially with regard to the safety of personnel . The reason for this was the numerous requirements for the construction and operation of a hazardous materials warehouse . “ In order to be on the safe side here , we not only fulfilled all the regulations , but voluntarily went beyond that ,” Jürgen Greiwing continued . For example , the extinguishing water retention system has greater capacity than prescribed by regulations . “ In this respect , we have done everything

we can to ensure that the camp will not cause any damage to either the environment or the residents ,” Greiwing said . The barium chloride is supplied in FIBCs transported in maritime containers , which are picked up in the directly adjacent Duisburg Intermodal Terminal ( DIT ). One sample of about 500 grams is taken per batch . This is done in a special room equipped with hi-tech ventilation . Then the goods are transferred and dispatched by means of closed box trailers , and transported exclusively with using Greiwing-owned vehicles via specified routes that correspond to the designated network of the city of Duisburg . “ Driving through residential areas will therefore not happen ,” Greiwing asserted . The firm supplies the chemical industry in Duisburg and surrounding area with 3,000 pallets of hazardous materials . “ We have gained a lot of experience dealing with hazardous substances in the past and have acquired a great deal of expertise in this field ,” Greiwing went on . “ Of course , we are very pleased that we can now make full use of this know-how at our Logport location .” Logport is becoming increasingly important for Greiwing a strategic hub . Its connectivity via the River Rhine to the north west Europe seaports means it can fully exploit the economies of scale from handling goods supplied in standard containers . To this end , last year the firm invested in a 45 tonne gantry crane and a container tilting platform .
