Trifleet goes cryogenic

Leasing company Trifleet is building up a significant cryogenic container fleet , and will be offering related services as well . Twenty 40ft tanks with a volume of 46,000 litres have been ordered as a first batch for the planned 2018 investments . The new cryogenic tanks will encompass a state-ofthe-art design and meet all regulations for LNG and liquid air gases . The first containers will be available for leasing during the first quarter . The new business unit will be headed by Jaap Kuijpers Wentink , who has spent his career in the cryogenic business . He will work with the Trifleet service team , which is already certified to work with LNG tank containers . As an alternative fuel for oil-based products , LNG is considered to be the most environmentally friendly fuel . In the rapidly growing gas market , there is an increasing need for transport storage capacity in the form of intermodal tank containers . And , as an alternative fuel for ships and trucks , LNG is soaring . The supply of LNG requires flexible storage , which can be achieved by operational leasing , says Trifleet . In view of the significant investment involved in LNG installations – of which stationary tanks are responsible for the majority of this – the need increases when it comes to turning capital expenditure into operational expenditure by leasing storage through intermodal tank containers . The engineering of LNG cryogenic tank containers is a complex task , given the applicable rules and regulations , and high quality requirements during a tank ’ s lifetime .

Albatross goes gas

Recently launched tank lessor Albatross continues to expand its newbuild fleet programme . The firm recently placed an order for 140 high pressure gas tanks with working pressure of 27.5 resp . 34.5 bar , which are being delivered ex-factory CIMC Nantong . The interior of the tanks is zinc lined to avoid shell corrosion and contamination of the products to be shipped . The tanks are also manufactured with a sump , enabling complete discharge of the cargo . A spray bar allows better mixing of different products when the tanks are being used for blending . In addition , a tracking device has been fitted to the frame to enable easy and safe installation of

the Albatross Sky GPS device , which can be mounted to the tanks on customer request . This not only shows the actual location of the tank once activated on the Albatross website , it also supplies data showing the logistics performance of the tanks .

CIMC carries first Canada- China LNG shipment

CIMC Enric is a partner in the first shipment of LNG from

Canada to China . The world ’ s largest tank container manufacturer provided LNG tanks for the shipment from Vancouver carrying LNG supplied by energy group FortisBC from the latter ’ s Tilbury facility in Delta , British Columbia . Although relatively small at 950 gigajoules of gas ( about 17 tonnes of LNG ), the shipment is being seen as a milestone in Canada ’ s LNG export industry , and is part of a pilot project to determine long term feasibility . Logistics were provided by True North Energy Corporation . “ This pilot is a small , but significant step for BC ’ s LNG export industry ,” said Douglas Stout , vice-president of market development and external relations , FortisBC . “ At FortisBC , we are working towards changing the LNG landscape with the first of what could be many shipments from our province .” British Columbia ’ s LNG industry has been steadily moving towards this goal and , in support of this , FortisBC has invested in expanding its Tilbury LNG storage facility and in solutions to transport natural gas . True North has been exploring ways to bring Canadian natural gas to Asia and its market approach is key to this breakthrough . By teaming up , the participants see these solutions as providing China with more access to LNG , a clean and low-cost fossil fuel displacement for coal and diesel . “ True North Energy is pleased to work with FortisBC and CIMC Enric to make the first ever LNG export to Asia from Canada . LNG is a much cleaner alternative fuel than coal and diesel ,” said Calvin Xu , CEO of True North . “ By working with FortisBC and CIMC , we will continue to develop a strong LNG market in Canada and abroad .” Xu said the advantages of containerising LNG shipments lay chiefly in not having to build large scale export and receiving terminals which also need direct quayside vessel loading and
