Martenitsa is a small piece of adornment,
made of white and red yarn and worn
from the 1 st of March until around the
end of March. The name of the holiday is
Baba Marta. “Baba’’ is a Bulgarian word
for grandmother and “Mart” is a Bulgarian
word for the month of March. The custom
is related to the welcome of the coming
spring.
