Photo by: H. Mckenney If you talk to any Car Kulture enthusiast they will tell you the Pacific Northwest needs more cool events. The way this event has grown, it reminds me of a certain line from a movie about baseball: “build it and they will come.” This is what KKF promoter Chuck Mitchell did when he pulled out all the stops this year and leaped to a bigger venue - with all the good stuff Kulture people like: gambling, booze, music, and pretty ladies roaming the venue. The Silverdale beach hotel worked well for installments one through four, but a larger party location was needed to make this a true Northwest event. The choice to relocate the show to the Clearwater Casino would prove to be a very smart choice, and the move came off without a hitch. Judging by the smiles all day long from the Casino staff and the participants, I would say it was a raging success. Throughout the day, thanks to the Booze fighters, bikes rolled in and out of the place like clockwork to soak up the music and great food with many of them commenting that they would be back next year for sure. The official bike count was someplace around 300, “more than double last year” according to Chuck. Well over 3000 Kustom Kulture enthusiasts made it through the gates and feasted on everything the event had to offer. Events like this don’t just happen; Chuck has a core group of volunteers and coordinators that help all year long to plan this out and give Chuck a ton of love and support. “On the flip the side the bigger thanks has to go to the guy’s and gal’s that flock to this event from outside of Kitsap County and pay for the rooms, show and car entry and support everything this event is about”. According to Chuck, participants came from as far away as Canada, all over Washington and several from Oregon. I asked Chuck, “What was in store for next year?” He couldn’t quite elaborate at the time of this interview, but did say “The wheels are already turn’n” and he’s quite sure “we’ll be back.” So like the movie Field of Dreams, Chuck did build it, and yes they came! And they had a hell of a good time! - Gordy Lee www.BxBmag.co | BUILT NOT BOUGHT MAGAZINE 13
