The Mpoye Jean Family
This Burundian family of 7 arrived in the US four years ago via Congo and Tanzania and are happy to call America their home.
Jean works at Carilion as a laundry operator.
The family applied to Habitat to escape problems with neighbors in their public housing apartment, rent increases and safety issues related to overcrowding and loitering in the area. After their life of traveling from one place to another, the parents’ greatest desire is for stability and a permanent place for their children to grow up. Jean and Meria have relatives who are also in the Habitat program.
On March 8, 2014, we raised the first wall of the 9th home sponsored by Thrivent Financial and Lutheran Cooperative Ministries! 1405 Rorer Avenue in the Mountain View Neighborhood will be the home of Mpoye Jean, Nyandwi Meria and their five beautiful children.
