Volunteer Spotlight

Lutheran Volunteers

For many years now, the Fortune 500 Company, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has sponsored a house with Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley. This year, Thrivent Financial also sponsored an owner-occupied repair project through their Thrivent Repairs program as well! Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley is very fortunate to have a large core of dedicated volunteers from area Lutheran churches including Christ Lutheran, St. Philip's and College Lutheran among many others. The pictures featured above and to the top right are all from the most recent Thrivent Repairs project at 3909 Dakota Avenue for homeowner Delbria Thompson.

Thanks to the efforts of several of our Lutheran Builders Club members and youth from Christ Lutheran, St. Philip's and College Lutheran churches, the fence, foundation and driveway of Delbria's home were all repaired and/or repainted.

In addition to the work done those two days, there are also many Lutheran volunteers that come out every week (sometimes more than two times a week) to work with Habitat. Most of these folks are Builders Club members that work with Habitat year-round whose support we rely on to lead other volunteers as well. The Lutheran community is a strong one in Roanoke and their dedication to Habitat is one beyond measure. Thank you, Lutheran volunteers!
