Yusuf Musa and Patience Bleedy

Yusuf was born in Somalia and raised in Kenya, where he finished high school and operated a small store called Kioski. In 2004 he arrived in Richmond; two years later he moved to Roanoke and now works in the dietary department at Carilion Community Hospital. Patience, born in Liberia, spent 4 years in a Ghanian refugee camp before coming to the US in 2005. A nursing assistant at Care Advantage , she has a second business braiding hair at home.

Yusef and Patience are parents to three boys: 6-year-old Elvis, at left in the photo, who loves to play with toys and ride his bike outside; twins, 5: Osmaili, center, who loves to watch cartoons and Issa, right, who likes to play outside with his friends. The boys think their mother’s spaghetti is the best!

Yusuf and Patience applied to Habitat in 2012 and say that it will be a dream come true when they can own a home and raise their family in a good environment. They end their story with “One love, one family.”
