� travels worldwide, lecturing on use of timber in architecture. �Useful Structures” by Jonas Lencer, studio director with UKbased, dRMM, which specialises in prefabrication and engineered timber construction, acclaimed for the design and delivery of the Wansey Street project( winner of the BD Public Housing Architect of the Year award) and the design of Endless Stairs, among others. Highlighting dRMM’ s pioneering work in crosslaminated timber, Lencer presented on the challenges, design options and, more importantly, the potential in sculptural architecture. Rune Abrahamsen, structural engineer and timber bridge specialist with Sweco Norge AS, on“ Timber Bridges.” With the focus on use of timber in bridge construction, Abrahamsen shared his proven expertise in the many designs to his credit, the more famous being the bridge across the Rena River in Norway and the pedestrian bridge in Kalmar, Sweden. His prodigious résumé also includes timber buildings such as TREET( a 14-storey timber apartment building in Bergen), the glulam-structured Norwegian Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai and the timber structures at the Oslo Airport.( Note: Quite recently, Abrahamsen worked with MTC / Putrajaya Corporation on the longest pedestrian bridge in Malaysia, built of glulam, as part of the Putrajaya City Trail project.) �� ������ �� ������������������� ����������� ������� ����� �������� ��������� �������� Frank Miebach’ s discourse was on“ Building with Wood”, as the building material of the future that is not only ecologically sustainable but also offers myriad possibilities in planning and creative design. Other Highlights Preceding the Conference, MTC launched its latest publication, ���� ��������� ��� ������ ������� �� ���������� �� ������������� handbook on the subject with references on how and what timber species to select and use, comprehensive information on decking components, planning, design, installation and maintenance. For its aesthetics and versatility, timber decking is reckoned as a popular feature that adds value to any property and the new guidebook aims at promoting its wider use in building construction.
Later, in post-Conference, MTC and PAM collaborated with Universiti Teknologi Mara( UiTM) to convene a workshop entitled Designing with Timber – An Architectural Perspective, conducted by Conference presenters Andrew Lawrence and Jonas Lencer specifically for students of architecture in Malaysia. �
