OUTLOOK ON THE SCENE
By Ray Adauto The Texas Association of Builders held its summer meeting last week in Fort Worth in support of the Sunbelt Show . The show was successful as opening day was packed . Around two hundred displays in a lot of various categories were displayed for the attendees . The regular meetings for TAB were limited but well attended . A couple of notes on some of the highlights and lowlights of the session :
• Homepac golf was Tuesday at Cowboys Country Club , owned by Jones .
• Not all committees or councils met . Attending the EPAB was Jaime Gonzalez , Randy Bowling , Jacob Barde , Sal Masoud , and yours truly .
• Opening meeting day was Wednesday , July 10 . The Developers Council met with Sal Masoud , Randy Bowling IIIand Jacob Barde attending .
• Codes & Standards met at the same time , and Jaime and I attended . The discussion revolved on the implementation of the electrical codes and whether there will be a statewide IEC and or IBC . NAHB reported that there are concerns with the latest electrical code and issues with appliances suddenly going offline due to the new breakers kicking off without warning , especially on older appliances .

Members attend Sunbelt Show / TAB Meetings

• GRC met that afternoon . Main concern is that the next Legislature will have at least thirty-six and as many as forty new members who do not have statewide office experience .
• For TAB that means that there will be a substantial need to educate those newbies on housing . Additionally , the TAB lobby is calling the upcoming session difficult , and a session where new bills will be presented by potential adversaries of the housing industry . We will have to defend the legislation we got last session , especially RCLA reform . Rally day will be in February . Notice will be sent on dates . OSHA is proposing a first-time federal workplace heat standard . It includes both indoor and outdoor workers and would require employers to create a plan to “ evaluate and control heat hazards in their workplace .” The new rule would apply to employers in general construction , maritime and agriculture sectors with some exceptions . I ’ ll have a report from NAHB in the Builders outlook . Next year the Sunbelt Show and meeting move to Grapevine Gaylord Texan , then goes to San Antonio in 2026 . Next TAB meeting will be held in Bastrop ( outside of Austin ) on November 19-21 .
