Weng Chun)
The 16 Combat strategies of the Red
Boat Weng Chun tradition are based
upon the first four of them, the Loi Lau
Hoi Song: The Weng Chun practitioner
gives his opponent the opportunity to
attack and push forward, taking up his
opponent s power and using it to gain
more momentum for his own counter
attack (Loi Lau). The opponent is refused
to retreat back into long distance
combat, and where he withdrews his
power, he is being followed (Hoi Song),
thus forcing him to remain in extreme
close distance combat, where he is being
controlled.
In the second sentence the next four
strategies provide the Weng Chun
practitioner with actual procedures to
this end: Huen (circling) Lau (spiral) Kao
(hook) Da (punch). If an opponent for
example attacks with a straight punch,
his aiming is being hampered by circling.
Furthermore he automatically gets into a
worse combat position, since circling
makes it easy to intersept his line of
power from the side, or even to get
