2 . Get out there and take action
Now that you ’ re well-rested , it ’ s time to get your butt off the couch again . You didn ’ t think it ’ d be that easy , did you ?
Taking action might sound like a no-brainer , but it ’ s still the step where most people get stuck . All too often I see people reposting “ inspirational ” quotes from famous entrepreneurs who shall not be named here , thinking that consuming their content will somehow make them successful . But what they fail to realize is that no one who ever made their dreams come true did so by watching YouTube tutorials or reading self-help books . There simply is no magic pill . If you liked this tip , go and sign up to my masterclass for only € 4,99 a month to fix all your problems .
You can have the most elaborate plan , but if you never actually follow through with it , you ’ re not going to get anywhere . And the beautiful thing is , it ’ s not even necessary to have that plan to kick things into motion . Sometimes , all it takes is picking up a new hobby , joining a new community , or starting a job that sounds intriguing to you . The reason being that you absolutely need to expose yourself to unfamiliar and perhaps even frightening situations to gain awareness of the possibilities in front of you . And when you do that , the universe has a way of showing you what ’ s right for you and what isn ’ t . So go and do stuff !
3 . Find your Ikigai
If the previous step introduced you to an activity that you ’ re considering turning into a profession - congrats , that ’ s huge ! Now let ’ s see if it can bring you sustainable happiness .
Maybe you ’ ve heard of the Japanese concept Ikigai , which roughly translates to ‘ reason for being ’. It ’ s basically a framework for evaluating whether an activity or job can bring you a holistic and long-term sense of fulfilment . To achieve Ikigai , the activity in question needs to meet four criteria :
1 . It ’ s something you love doing and that will keep on challenging you . 2 . It ’ s something you ’ re good at . 3 . It ’ s useful to the world in some way . 4 . It ’ s something that allows you to live a comfortable life , ergo something that pays well .
Cover all these bases and you have found your purpose . Of course , this is extremely difficult and takes years of soul-searching . But keeping these four pillars in mind during your quest for meaning is vital to avoid starting over , years down the road . If you ’ re interested , I recommend reading up a bit on Ikigai online or watching Tim Tamashiro ’ s TED talk on the subject . It ’ s a little bit too nuanced to explain it in detail here .
To wrap things up , I hope you could take something from this article and apply it to your life , even if it ’ s just something you already knew but needed a reminder about . And if you ’ re currently feeling a little lost in life , don ’ t beat yourself up about it ! Good things will come to you with time if you keep looking .
