| Chic Trends in Romance | Lynda Chance Resolutions: I’m not going to call them resolutions, because that’s a strong word and it would stress me out and I need peace and tranquility and good karma to be able to write. But I do have goals for 2014. I plan on finishing up my Redwood Falls series. They are stand alone books, but they are all centered around two ranching families in Redwood Falls, Texas. Trends: In 2014, I believe that romantic fiction will follow what the reader wants. With the explosion of digital publishing, the readers have become the gatekeepers and that’s as it should be. I think we will continue to see a lot more serials and anthologies. I also believe that in 2014, characters will come to life in social media and fans will be able to interact with their favorites. Josh and Hannah by Lynda Chance (Redwood Falls, #1, Indie Book—available now) An Alpha-Male in the making . . . Josh Turner wants Hannah more than life itself. She’s perfect and new . . . but she’s a McIntyre. She’s from the richest family in the county, and he’s a Turner, from the wrong side of the proverbial tracks. And to make matters worse, there’s no love lost between their families. Desiree Holt Resolutions: Absolutely. I always make resolutions, although they don’t always work out. I have a new writing program, thanks to wonderful Joey Hill, called Storyist. It will allow me to fully develop my characters and my scenes and the structure of the story. I have always been a pantser but I think it’s time to add in a little of the plotter. Trends: They are so hard to predict. And trends have a way of tripping over themselves. The problem is, by the time you figure it out, they’ve already disappeared. I think if you write a really good book and work the promo scene you will have success. Some more than other, of course, but then, you can trend, promote, whatever. In the end at least fifty percent of it is luck.
