CITY GUIDE: COPENHAGEN
C O P E N H AG E N
One of the reasons why Copenhagen is such a good city to visit on business is because it is so compact and easy to navigate. In fact you can get to the city from the airport in just 15 minutes. This capital city, which is home to a million Danes is in a great location, overlooking the Oresund strait. With Sweden within easy reach, it serves as a cultural and geographic link between mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
One of the other reasons behind Copenhagen being a fantastic business destination is the people – they’ re renowned for their friendly nature and the fact many speak perfect English is a bonus. If you do have any time to explore then there are plenty of attractions to choose from and many of them are in walking distance of each other. The two most famous are the statue of The Little Mermaid at Langelinje Pier, and the National Museum in the Prince’ s Palace.
The National Museum is home to Restaurant Julian where the Danish and international dishes are inspired by on-going exhibitions and activities. Organic produce is high on the agenda, with 99.5 % of the wine organic. In addition the restaurant only uses fresh, locally grown, seasonal organic produce. This is a great location for lunch, but isn’ t open for dinner.
An option for dinner would be the two Michelin starred Noma. The restaurant is housed in a 19th century harbour-side warehouse conversion with rough walks, old beams and classic Danish furniture. The food has a strong Scandinavian identity and is created by Chef Rene Redzepi.
If you do have any time to visit the shops then Europe’ s longest pedestrianised street, Stroget-Illums Bolighus is where you could start. However, Kompagnistraede is a few streets away and is more interesting and less frenetic.
