E4 uses station identification to show their ethos of their personality and beliefs. Station identification is when a radio or television identifies themselves in a short advertisement in order to represent themselves and their brand name. The E4 idents are consistent as they all have the purple in them which is the primary colour of the E4 logo. The main colours for channel E4 are: purple and white, purple the colour of royalty could connote luxury, wealth and sophistication and white could connote innocence and purity. As the channel has been created to narrowcast to younger audience, Channel 4 may have done this to show their innocence and how they use appropriate content for their niche target audience. For example, no swear words during after school time when children are watching TV.

E4’s logo is placed in all idents to remind the public of the logo when they see adverts on other media sources such as bus shelters, magazines or newspapers.
