INTRODUCTION KIRK STARR, MBA, RPH Vice President, Baylor Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute The Baylor Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute brings together brilliant, inquisitive minds and a vast array of resources to change individuals’ lives forever. While many transplant programs are based at academic medical centers, ours has grown from a highly regarded not-for-profit medical center. The Baylor Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute integrates the transplant services of Baylor Dallas and Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth. Together, the Dallas and Fort Worth programs make one of the largest, most comprehensive, multispecialty transplant centers in the United States. In 2016, our program continued to live out its legacy and dedication to our patients through research, clinical advancement and program growth. Beginning this journey more than three decades ago was risky, but the results have been rewarding for our patients, physicians, staff and communities we serve. Nationally, organ transplantation increased 8.5 percent in 2016. The growth was reflected at Baylor Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute as almost 450 patient received transplants. The breadth and scope of our program are hallmarks of our commitment to the care we provide and the reasons we are so highly regarded. This dedication to our patients and their families is embraced by the 268 health care professionals dedicated to the Baylor Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute. Additionally, researchers and physician specialists, including transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, pulmonologists and cardiologists, comprise the team that provides a full scope of care for our patients. 4
