In Leonard Bernstein ’ s “ Kaddish ” Symphony , the Hebrew prayer for times of bereavement sparks a heat exploration of spirit and fate , a testament made all the more poignant with updated words by Holocaust survivor Samuel Pisar ( narrated here by his family ). Artistic Advisor James Conlon , leading a richly colorful , deeply romantic score by the German-Jewish composer Franz Schreker , explores the latest in his series of Recovered Voices , honoring composers silenced by the Nazi regime .
