American conductor Michael Stern , Music Director of the Kansas City Symphony , guides the orchestra in an exploration of Bartok ’ s suite from the scandalous ballet The Miraculous Mandarin . Imani Winds joins the BSO for Valerie Coleman ’ s Phenomenal Women . With movements dedicated to inspirational women like Maya Angelou , Serena Williams , and Michelle Obama , this work embodies the success over adversity they have achieved .
