SUPERSTAR GUEST ARTISTS
The season opens with a special concert featuring world-renowned violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman . The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra welcomes opera legends Renée Fleming , Rod Gilfry , Christine Goerke , and Greer Grimsley to the stage . Esteemed guest artists include violinists Anne-Sophie Mutter , Nicola Benedetti , and Ray Chen , and talented pianists Benjamin Grosvenor and Beatrice Rana . The Pops series features Baltimore ’ s own Tony Award ® -winning André De Shields , charismatic jazz virtuoso Byron Stripling , and the return of the acrobatic wizards Troupe Vertigo .
POWERFUL CLASSICAL WORKS
The orchestra is showcased in beloved classical works , including Strauss ’ Also sprach Zarathustra ; Tchaikovsky ’ s famous Fifth Symphony ; Beethoven ’ s Symphonies 7 , 8 , and 9 ; Stravinsky ’ s complete The Firebird ; and Rachmaninoff ’ s Symphony No . 3 .
INSPIRING NEW MUSIC
American composer John Adams ’ The Dharma at Big Sur is a rarely performed work for six-string electric violin and orchestra featuring Chloë Hanslip ; a collaboration between composer James Lee III and Artistic Partner Wordsmith for the world premiere of Freedom ’ s Genuine Dawn , which sets the powerful words of Frederick Douglass to music ; and The Percussion Collective performs Drum Circles , a captivating percussion quartet concerto co-commissioned by the BSO and written by renowned composer Christopher Theofanidis .

RECOVERED VOICES
James Conlon brings his Recovered Voices mission with the Los Angeles Opera to the BSO . Maestro Conlon has worked tirelessly for decades to recover and promote music by composers suppressed by the Nazi regime . His exploration of Recovered Voices with the BSO will include music of Zemlinsky , Schreker , and Braunfels .

Recovered Voices is a special initiative of LA Opera that seeks to bring the music of composers suppressed by the Holocaust to the stage . It was founded in 2006 with generous support from Marilyn Ziering .
LOCAL CONNECTIONS
Connecting with our community and local partners rests at the heart of the highly anticipated return of choral music and large-scale productions at the BSO . Beethoven ’ s Ninth Symphony , featuring the uplifting “ Ode to Joy ” melody , welcomes the Morgan State University Concert Choir and The Carter Legacy Singers . The Women of the University of Maryland Concert Choir join the BSO for Holst ’ s The Planets and Debussy ’ s Nocturnes .
