HONORING DORIS BAREIS

Doris Bareis was never a musician , and in fact couldn ’ t carry a tune , but she gave her daughter Donna the opportunity to explore , play , and appreciate music . She passed away in March at the age of 98 . At the time of her death , she was a resident of Sunrise of Columbia in Howard County , Maryland .
A gift from her estate to Music for Maryland is in honor of the legacy of joy and inspiration from music that she gave to her daughter . In a somewhat different vein , it also recognizes her own love for all things “ Harry Potter ,” the subject of the last concert of this summer ’ s tour .
Doris led a full and active life and lived independently into her 90s . She loved to travel and learn about different people and cultures . Much to her daughter ’ s dismay , she also loved roller coasters . In her late 80s , she forced Donna to join her in trips to Disney World and Universal Studios ( Wizarding World of Harry Potter , of course !).
Music for Maryland is about music for all , and Doris would be pleased to know that she is supporting this effort to make the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ’ s beautiful music accessible to everyone .
