FOR THE
BSYO and OrchKids students with guest artists Time for Three
The BSYO has thrilled us . Recognizing that the future of live music resides in our young performers , we wanted to make sure that they have the financial resources to participate here in Baltimore and in experiences like the 2025 tour to Portugal .
One of the top youth orchestras in the state , 279 students from across the region participated in one of three tiers of ensembles , meeting 32 times across the season through weekly rehearsals , sectionals , and workshops . The BSYO once again held every concert at the Meyerhoff , with many students sharing their talents in performances with the Orchestra including the season opening Gala featuring 17-year-old violinist Runa Matsushita as soloist .
BSYO Violist Jayden Moore had the opportunity to perform with the Orchestra and his colleagues as part of the Gala , in an encore collaboration with guest artists Time for Three , and in chamber ensembles . Jayden is one of a growing number of BSYO participants receiving tuition and special assistance through dedicated scholarship support . In fitting fashion , he also joined as the youth representative on a new BSYO Fundraising committee designed to raise additional scholarship and tour underwriting , including support for a 2025 tour to the Lisbon Music Festival .
BILL NERENBERG AND DOTTY ROSENTHAL
BSO friends Bill Nerenberg and Dorothy Rosenthal were a driving force behind the creation of the BSYO Fundraising effort . They also personally led by example . In addition to establishing the Nerenberg Family Scholarship Fund , they hosted chamber concerts in their home to benefit the BSYO ( funding the purchase of a new Tuba ) and are planning a milestone birthday bash to benefit the Tour & Scholarship Fund .
I have gotten to play and grow my skills with my friends , and amazing artists that I ’ ve looked up to for years . I am honored to share a student voice on the fundraising committee , a chance to give back and help other kids get this opportunity .
