Just announced as entirely free , The Marin Festival , honoring the historic tenure of Marin Alsop as Music Director , kicks off this month with BSO OrchKids ’ Daring Innovations performance , hosted on the BSO OffStage platform on May 27 at 7 pm .
The festival ’ s culminating event , a Gala Celebration , will be broadcast on Maryland Public Television ( MPT ) on June 19 at 8:30 pm . Conducted by Marin Alsop , the performance features superstar soprano Renée Fleming , BSO OrchKids ’ students , and the world premiere of Destined Words by James Lee III and Wordsmith in honor of Juneteenth .
We ’ re inviting the community to join in the celebration through the
Salute From Your Seats program , the chance for audience members to join the broadcast in the form of cardboard cutouts from the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall , with the proceeds of the cutout sales benefiting OrchKids . TAKE A BREAK WITH THE BSO !
Throughout the 2020-21 season , we ’ re proud to have been able to provide short musical breaks to members of the healthcare sector and other local workers . A free weekly series of short performances produced by members of the BSO , Take a Break with the BSO has been viewed over 1,000 times by those in our community , supplying viewers a moment of peace during uncertain times .
