This month , we are excited to announce The Marin Festival , a celebration of Marin Alsop ’ s historic 14-year tenure as it comes to a triumphant close , and as her transition to Music Director Laureate & OrchKids Founder begins !
The multi-faceted festival commemorates Alsop ’ s tenure through expanded digital content , virtual performances , outdoor community concerts , and a culminating free Gala broadcast with Renée Fleming on June 19 at 8:30 pm .
BSO ORCHKIDS DARING INNOVATION
Celebrating the innovative accomplishments of OrchKids Founder Maestra Alsop , students , community members , and artists will participate in this exciting virtual event to honor Marin and the journey of the OrchKids program over the past 13 years . This event will be available exclusively on BSO OffStage , May 27 at 7 pm .
BSO SESSIONS : SEASON 1 FINALE
Alsop will lead the finale of the 2020-21 season of BSO Sessions in Episodes 29 and 30 . Exclusively available on BSO OffStage , Episodes 29 and 30 premiere June 9 and June 16 , respectively .
IN-PERSON AND IN THE COMMUNITY
In the BSO ’ s first in-person performances since March 2020 , Marin Alsop leads the BSO in two community performances – free and open to the public . Performances will take place outside of the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on June 5 and on the lawn at Strathmore on June 12 .

A Live-Streamed , One Night Only Gala Celebration
The Marin Festival closes with a live gala celebration in Marin Alsop ’ s honor on Saturday , June 19 , 2021 at 8:30 pm . Alsop leads the Orchestra in her final concert as Music Director from the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall stage in a program featuring live and pre-recorded moments , messages , and surprises .
Emceed by BSO Artistic Partner Wordsmith , highlights include the world premiere of a new BSO commission , Destined Words , by James Lee III in honor of Juneteenth and narrated by Wordsmith , and the special appearance of OrchKids in Florence Price ’ s Adoration . The evening culminates with a performance by renowned soprano Renée Fleming .
