THE BALTIMORE SYMPHONY YOUTH STRING ORCHESTRA IS PROUD TO SHARE THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS !
Split into five chamber groups , our BSYO String Orchestra , with students in grades second through seventh , studied not only the notes and rhythms of Saint-Saëns ’ The Carnival of the Animals , but also the musical subtleties that gives each animal ’ s movement its unique character . Throughout the performance , students introduce the animals , followed by Artistic Partner Wordsmith ’ s original narrations to accompany the piece .
Embracing the challenges of a virtual season in the fall of 2020 , this project tested our young students as musicians and introduced them to the world of recording technology . Using the Soundtrap platform , each student was responsible for creating their own track within one interactive virtual space . Collaborating as they never had before , they practiced , listened , adjusted , and recorded this performance .
