DONOR SPOTLIGHT : THE PEGGY & YALE GORDON TRUST

When Yale Gordon ( 1907-1984 ) met the love of his life , Peggy Friedmann ( 1908- 1981 ), a Johns Hopkins alumna , she became his muse , leading him to the arts , and specifically to music . Peggy , a longtime volunteer at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , would regularly open up their box in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall to those who would not ordinarily be able to see and hear the symphony , including children , the elderly , and others who struggled with disability .
On their 20th anniversary in 1980 , Yale surprised Peggy with a wonderful gift – the creation of the Peggy and Yale Gordon Charitable Trust . The primary purpose of the trust is to foster and promote the advancement and performance of classical music in the Metropolitan Baltimore area .
For many years , the Trust has been providing annual support to put emerging guest artists and conductors on the BSO ’ s stages . In 2019 , the Trust made the extraordinary gesture to endow its annual support , ensuring that young and emerging artists would be presented as part of the BSO ’ s mission in perpetuity .
In the face of the enormous stress created by the COVID-19 pandemic , the Trustees decided that it would be very much in the spirit of the Gordons to make the beautiful music of the classical composers accessible to all without charge by underwriting access to BSO Sessions : Episode 22 .
