The BSO ’ s education programs continued inspiring , engaging , and educating students ( of all ages ) across Maryland and beyond , as well as providing teachers and families additional resources to help navigate the challenges of virtual learning .

The digital evolution of our longest running series , Midweek Concerts : BGE Broadcasts , remained our largest reaching and , in fact , the most highly viewed content on BSO OffStage . Four programs were captured from the Meyerhoff stage and strategically released throughout the academic year . Completely free , each featured a different instrument family , with accompanying Early Listener Guides to support teachers and everyone serving in the role of ‘ teacher ’ in a virtual setting . We also made BSO Sessions free to all teachers in our regional public school systems , encouraging them to share music and curate conversations in the classroom .

Artistic leadership and BSO musicians led nearly 50 virtual classroom visits , reaching schools in ten Maryland counties . In Montgomery County , and in addition to strong Midweek viewership , students participated in ensemble and mentoring residencies with members of the BSO through OrchLab . Under the artistic leadership of Nicholas Hersh in his final season , the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras ( BSYO ) offered 238 student musicians the chance to play , learn , and grow , as musicians and as future leaders , across three levels of youth ensembles all year round .

And , recognizing that lifelong learning doesn ’ t stop when you graduate high school , we also continued to provide programming for emerging professional and adult amateur musicians – from working with a group of ensemble conductors in Harford County to offering a robust series of virtual and in-person activities for BSO Academy alumni and their friends .

Collectively , we are proud to share that we served an estimated 25,000 students , teachers , parents , and families through this extraordinary programming .
